 Dr Sampurna Roy MD

Clinical History:  A 65-year old obese woman presented with a palpable mass in  the lower abdomen.

MR images showed a well defined hyperintense mass (5 x 3.5 cm) of the uterine body.

Gross appearance of the specimen:  The uterus measured 9 x 7.5 x 5 cm and had an intramural bulging, well-circumscribed round mass which measured 5cm in maximal diameter.

Cut surface of the nodule was  pale-yellow in colour with a relatively soft consistency.

No areas of necrosis or hemorrhages were seen.

The serosal surfaces of the uterus and  both the ovaries and fallopian tubes were macroscopically normal.

Sections from the uterine nodule for diagnosis.
