Soft Tissue Tumours of Uncertain Differentiation

Dr Sampurna Roy MD

Tumors of uncertain differentiation include benign and malignant tumours with distinct  features but uncertain lineage,

A number of these tumours show genetic aberrations.

Translocation-associated soft tissue tumors and sarcomas are included in this category.

Cellular component of these tumours  do not belong to a normal cell type and have distinctive patterns of gene expression.

Translocation associated sarcomas often do not show nuclear pleomorphism. These tumours are considered aggressive high grade sarcomas.

In this list of tumours I have included both dermal and soft tissue tumours of uncertain differentiation:

             Superficial Acral Fibromyxoma

             Digital Mucous (Myxoid) Cyst

             Non Neural Granular cell tumour

                                       Hemosiderotic Fibrolipomatous tumour

              Angiomatoid Fibrous Histiocytoma

              Aggressive Angiomyxoma

              Intramuscular Myxoma

              Ossifying fibromyxoid tumour

              Synovial Sarcoma

               Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma

               Epithelioid Sarcoma

               Clear cell sarcoma

              Extraskeletal Ewing's Sarcoma / PNET

              Desmoplastic small round cell tumour

    Mixed tumour, myoepithelioma, parachordoma

             Ectopic hamartomatous thymoma

             Extra-renal rhabdoid tumour
